Ending Discomfort

mona-lisa-couple-photoWhen estrogen levels decline after menopause, a hysterectomy, or breast cancer treatments, many women experience vaginal dryness, itching, burning, or painful intercourse. Postpartum women may also suffer with these symptoms.

Now, there is MonaLisa Touch™, a gentle laser therapy that offers a safe, effective alternative to messy estrogen creams or hormone replacement therapy.

MonaLisa Touch™ is a safe, FDA-approved, virtually painless in-office treatment that uses gentle laser energy to generate new collagen and enhance moisture levels in the vaginal canal. Three treatments, just a few minutes each, can provide fast, effective relief.

For many women, the therapy is described as life-changing, as it safely and simply restores vaginal health and the enjoyment of intimacy.

How It Works

The MonaLisa Touch is a mild medical laser that delivers controlled energy to the vaginal tissue to revitalize the cells in the vaginal mucosa (vaginal tissue). These cells are stimulated to make more collagen, an essential ingredient in vaginal cell health, which helps restore the functionality that has been lost over time. The MonaLisa Touch treatment is performed using a special CO fractional laser, specifically designed for this type of application. This is an outpatient procedure performed in the physician’s office. It does not require anesthesia, incisions, or sutures.

The actual treatment takes just a few minutes. Patients receive three treatments, spaced six weeks apart. You can expect the treatment appointments to last about 15 minutes. Your initial consultation will take 20 – 40 minutes.

MonaLisa Touch™ – Frequently Asked Questions

The Issue

When estrogen levels decline after menopause, a hysterectomy, or breast cancer treatments, many women experience vaginal dryness, itching, burning, or painful intercourse. Postpartum women may also suffer with these symptoms. Now, there is MonaLisa Touch, a gentle laser therapy that offers a safe, effective alternative to messy estrogen creams or hormone replacement therapy.

What is the MonaLisa Touch?

The MonaLisa Touch is a mild medical laser that delivers controlled energy to the vaginal tissue to revitalize the cells in the vaginal mucosa (vaginal tissue). These cells are stimulated to make more collagen, an essential ingredient in vaginal cell health, which helps restore the functionality that has been lost over time.

How does it work?

The MonaLisa Touch treatment is performed using a special CO fractional laser, specifically designed for this type of application. This is an out-patient procedure performed in the physician’s office. It does not require anesthesia, incisions, or sutures.

Does the procedure hurt?

The procedure is virtually painless. Some patients experience some discomfort the first time the probe is inserted, but the actual treatment is not painful. Many patients report that they feel a brief pressure (similar to a Pap Smear) followed by a gentle vibration.

How long does it take?

The actual treatment takes just a few minutes. Patients receive three treatments, spaced six weeks apart. You can expect the treatment appointments to last about 15 minutes. Your initial consultation will take 20 – 40 minutes.

What type of results can I expect?

Most patients report a reduction in dryness, burning sensation and pain during intercourse, which contributes to a substantial improvement in the quality of life. These results are possible thanks to the stimulation of the mucosa which regenerates and “rejuvenates.” This process involves cells and tissues and requires a few weeks to be completed.

When will I experience results?

Most patients feel improvement after the very first treatment, although the procedure calls for three treatments that are generally spaced six weeks apart.

How long does it last?

Patients should expect to come back annually for a maintenance treatment in order to make the results last over the course of time.*

*Dr. Andreoiu will determine with you if follow-up treatments are required.

What are my limitations after the procedure is done?

Patients should refrain from sexual activity for two to three days. Dr. Andreoiu will determine a post-procedure regimen that is right for you.

How is the recovery?

Most women report slight localized discomfort following the laser treatment and during the first few days after the session. Many have reported to have resumed their normal routine after one to three days. During the healing period, it may be recommended to avoid lifting weights or some activities, such as taking a hot bath, or physical exercise. Dr. Carey Andreoiu will provide you with specific indications for a speedy recovery.

For which patients is this treatment appropriate?

The MonaLisa Touch is appropriate for any female who has gone through menopause, as well as those who are experiencing post-menopausal symptoms as a result of a hysterectomy or breast cancer treatments.
