RADIOLOGIC SERVICES
General Radiography (x-ray)
For over 100 years, Radiologic Imaging, or “x-ray,” has been
in use by physicians as an initial means to diagnose many diseases. X-rays
produce diagnostic images of the human body on film or digitally on a computer
screen. If an abnormality is noted on x-ray, a more detailed image
may be required by use of a CT scan or MRI. General Radiography is offered
at the following locations:
Main Clinic – 6801 Rogers Avenue,
Fort Smith
Bailey Family Clinic – 20 North Aster, Greenwood
Fianna Hills Family Practice and Orthopedics – 9101 Jenny Lind,
Fort Smith
Ozark Family Clinic – 201 South 7th Street, Ozark
Centers of Excellence – 7001 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith
Occupational Medicine Clinic – 4300 Regions Park Drive, Fort Smith
Hembree Regional Cancer Center – 7301 Rogers Avenue,
Fort Smith
Foot Health Center – 5004 South U Street, Fort Smith
ProMed Main Clinic – 6801 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith
ProMed Zero Clinic – 1400 South Zero Street, Fort Smith
Pro Med Van Buren Clinic – 2521 Alma Hwy, Van Buren
Fluoroscopy (Barium enema, Upper GI)
Fluoroscopy uses x-rays to capture an image of an organ while it is functioning. A
barium enema is used to diagnose illnesses of the bowel and colon. An
upper GI detects abnormalities of the esophagus, stomach, and the duodenum
(the first part of the small intestine). This test is offered at the following
location:
Main Clinic – 6801 Rogers Avenue,
Fort Smith
Mammography
A mammography exam, or mammogram, uses a low-dose x-ray system to detect
early breast cancer and diagnose breast disease. This test is offered
at the following location:
Main Clinic – 6801 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith
Ultrasound: Pelvic, Abdomen, Breast, Scrotal, Thyroids
Ultrasound uses the “returning echoes” of sound waves to visualize
internal organs of the body that are sometimes not well visualized by traditional
x-rays. This test is offered at the following location:
Main Clinic – 6801 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith
MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses radiofrequency waves and a strong
magnetic field to provide clear and detailed pictures of internal organs
and tissues. Using highly specialized equipment, the MRI exam can
be tailored to address the particular medical question being asked.
In 2007, Cooper Clinic installed Fort Smith's first and only Bilateral Breast
MRI for the early detection of breast cancer.
MRI testing is offered at the following location:
Main Clinic – 6801 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith
Bone Densitometry
Bone Densitometry (DEXA) is a quick, painless procedure for measuring bone
density. DEXA is effective is measuring bone loss leading to osteoporosis
and for tracking the effects of treatment for osteoporosis. This test
is offered at the following location:
Main Clinic – 6801 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith

CT Scan (64 Slice)
The CT Scan (Computed Tomography) uses special equipment to obtain images
from many different angles. The information is processed by a
computer and provides detailed images showing the physician exactly where
in the body an injury or tumor is. This test is offered at the following
location:
Main Clinic – 6801 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith
PET Imaging
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) identifies whether cancer is present
or not, if it has spread, and if it is responding to treatment. PET scans
can be performed on the whole body. This test is offered at the following
location:
Main Clinic – 6801 Rogers Avenue, Fort Smith
Prenatal Ultrasound
Ultrasound is considered safe for pregnant women, as there is no exposure
to radiation. A pre-natal ultrasound shows how the fetus is positioned
and may visualize specific fetal organs. This test is offered at the
following location:
Center of Excellence – Department
of Obstetrics and Gynecology
7001 Rogers Avenue, Suite 400
Non-Invasive Vascular Testing
With Ultrasound images of the body’s circulatory system, physicians
can locate and identify blockages, and abnormalities like blood clots,
plaque or emboli.
Center of Excellence – Department
of Surgery
7001 Rogers Avenue, Suite 501
Cardiac Nuclear Stress
Coronary arteries are best evaluated by determining the changes in blood
flow to the heart due to exercising. The Cardiac Nuclear Stress
Test utilizes physical exercise and a radioactive compound to construct
images of the heart thereby permitting the early detection of heart disease.
