Laboratory
Operating at nine convenient locations, the Cooper Clinic Laboratory Department performs lab services ordered by Clinic physicians as well as referring physicians. The laboratory is staffed by phlebotomists and medical technologists who are certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology.
Laboratory Certifications:
This department holds a certificate of compliance from the Health Care
Financing Administration (HCFA) issued by the Arkansas Department of
Health, Division of Health Facility Services. The laboratory is
inspected on a regular basis to ensure that all regulations and specifications
of Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) are met.

Lab Results:
Test results will not be released to any patient by lab personnel. Within
two days of your lab test(s), the results will be made available to the
ordering physician. Your doctor will review the results and notify
you (unless other arrangements have been agreed upon). The results of studies
sent outside Cooper Clinic to reference labs (Quest Laboratories, Mayo
Medical Laboratories, Athena Laboratories, St. Edward Mercy Medical Center
Lab, and Sparks Regional Medical Center Lab) may take longer to receive.
Patient Instructions:

Fasting Required:
The following lab tests require that you “fast” 8 hours before
your blood is drawn. “Fasting” means that you do not
eat or drink during that time period.

Leaving a specimen:
When you drop off a specimen at any Cooper Clinic lab location, make sure
that the container is marked with your name, date of birth, and the name
of the ordering physician. Also, please do not leave the specimen
on an unattended counter; place it in the hands of a Cooper Clinic employee
before you leave.

- If your blood tends to clot quickly
